Scholarship

Update: Scholarships have been awarded and the process is closed.

SCRIBEscholarNW: A scholarship program for aspiring calligraphers of all ages for attendance at Calligraphy Northwest 2012.

Calligraphy Northwest is delighted to offer a few scholarships, valued at $1000 each, to aspiring calligraphers of all ages. The scholarships may only be used for attendance at Calligraphy Northwest, an international conference, to be held at Reed College, Portland, Oregon, June 24 – July 1, 2012.

The Portland Society for Calligraphy is grateful to an anonymous donor for a generous gift to the Scholarship Fund for Calligraphy Northwest 2012.

Applicants should have some calligraphic knowledge/experience, have completed High School (or the equivalent) and be at least 18 years of age at the time of the conference. This is a scholarship opportunity, not a juried competition. Applicants of all skill levels will be considered equally.

The grant will be used as partial tuition for the conference. This is a unique opportunity to study calligraphy and related book arts with master instructors. SCRIBEscholars will live in campus dormitories, gather for meals and enjoy evening programs.

The scholarship is non-transferable: If the recipient is unable to attend, the award is forfeited and any funds received must immediately be returned to the Conference Chairs, Meri Taylor or Carol DuBosch, for the Scholarship Committee to allocate.

Total cost for the conference will be approximately $1350; recipients are responsible for additional costs above the $1000 award.
